Laura Linney is an American actress who is popular for her portrayal of strong but vulnerable characters. Born to a famous playwright's father but was raised by a single mom, who earned her living as a nurse, she was drawn to theatre when working with her father during the summer, eventually studying acting, first in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Her career began on Broadway shortly after her graduation, she made her debut in film within two years and on television following a year. Over the past few years she has appeared in a variety of TV productions, films and stage plays. She has been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her career. But despite the many nominations and awards, her enthusiasm for theatre remains constant, as she performs as a stage performer and screen.
