As I was a mom with one child on me and others within the cradle would work 12 hour shifts grinding floors and cutting off wallpaper. Ha! The home was beginning to look good, but there were still many things to be done. It would take time, money and my favorite shopping for furniture to decorate this home. In order to stay the cost within my means I took my sons along to search for hidden treasures at estate sales. We used to go on a weekly basis to walk around garage sales and auctions on the weekend as well as purchase various of furniture, both new and old created. I'd spend my workdays in the driveway either painting or sanding. It looked a bit like the following... This is where my obsession with restoring antique furniture started. The issue was not whether our house had already been furnished. There was a place in the market where I would sell my pieces. It was possible to expand my space because I owned plenty of pieces that I could use. In my own home, I began hosting open houses, where over 1000 people could come in and buy any item they liked on the 1st floor over the course of a weekend. Growing Days was created in the home. The business wasn't just flourishing, but I was also growing our family of four. In some ways, I had found the perfect way to balance being a mom and starting my new venture. Growing Days just seemed to be the right fit. My daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. Although I was happy with the direction that my business went, I was feeling like I needed to take a little break. I decided to slow down to spend time at home, spending time with my family. The time was right. The phone rang again after a while. A lot of people contacted me seeking advice regarding home improvements and decor. The majority of people who contacted me were people who had visited my home at one of the furniture open houses. I began taking on clients at a time taking my time but it didn't take for long to have numerous accounts and had the complete business of home remodeling. Most likely, I would have laughed if I had been told that the company was to become part of a forthcoming TV show that airs on the DIY Network. In the present, as I reflect on the situation I am laughing.
